Missy, my yellow Lab died July 30th, and my other hunting companion, Sophie, died September 26th, just two months later. Losing a hunting partner is a horrible set of emotions with which to deal, but losing both of them is even worse.
I am far from recovered from these two losses, but have chosen to volunteer efforts at the local Great Plains SPCA no-kill shelter. This organization does a wonderful job of nurturing animals to help find them forever homes. I have donated money to them each paycheck for quite a while, and now chosen to offer more. I now volunteer here to help with their wonderful work for these animals. Many are so very sweet, so I know they will quickly locate their forever homes. A few of the other ones need some patience and understanding. Just like we humans.

I have so much emo, still too tender to consider another hunting companion, so these shelter animals are a wonderful way to share some of my available TLC.
Please visit their web page or their brick and mortar location.
Good people. Lots.
