Dove season 2013

Two weeks ago today, my Yellow Labrador retriever, Missy, died as a result of her cancerous tumor on her spleen.  I do miss her so very much.  Dove season opens in less then three weeks. I will force myself to go, but it will be a miserable trip without her.  My first mention of her in this blog was on Sunday, May 3rd, 2009.  I was hopeful she would work as well in the marsh as did Sheba, my Chessy.

Sportspeople develop a special bond with their canine companions.  For those who understand, no explanation is required, but for those who do not, no explanation is possible.
May God bless and keep my hunting partners who have departed all too soon.

A friend is lost.

Last month I reminded all it is time to get ready for dove and teal seasons by gathering requisite equipment and supplies and spending some time at the shooting range. In this post, I also mentioned my yellow Labrador retriever, Missy, would accompany me to the range with her bumpers for some training and play time.

Missy died this week from an inoperable tumor on her spleen. I am heartbroken at the loss. She underwent surgery last month for another growth removal, but this one appeared and grew at a horrific rate.

I do so much miss her.

July once again... too darn hot to get out and practice firearms marksmanship much.  I have claimed for many years that Kansas enjoys two seasons, hunting and fishing. These two seasons overlap and sometimes have a schedule problem. I do enjoy the Midwest, and three of the four distinct seasons given us.  We are currently in my least favorite one, but autumn is just around the corner.

The idea of eyes and ears is not pleasant when it is so miserably hot outdoors.  Dove season is only about five weeks away, so practice we must.  I will purchase some promotional 20 gauge loads at the world's largest retailer and take the O/U to Tri County for some range time.  I recall last year I needed to purchase some more choke tubes for it, so today will be a good time to get that done. Carlson's is in Atwood, Kansas and has exactly what I need.  They are at:  http://www.choketube.com/

Teal will open just one week after doves, on the 7th of September 2013. My faithful field companion, Missy, will be eager to get out and start more regular training opportunities.  She enjoys Tri-County trips also, her bumpers get lots of duty there both on dry land and water retrieves. She had surgery this summer and has not been given opportunity for field workouts.

OK, get some ammo and off to the range.
